Amiga 1000
1985: Amiga 1000
Apart (maybe) from the Apple II this is my favorite vintage computer of all time. It has just such a beautiful design and was so revolutionary when it was presented in 1985. I bought mine 1986 and it was just an amazing upgrade from the 8-bit Apple II europlus I had at that time to this super fast beast with lots of memory (512MB), a great GUI, two-button mouse, multitasking, thousands of colors and of course its amazing sound capabilities which started my interest in electronic music. The name is funny as well (girlfriend in spanish) since it really was treated as a girlfriend by the computer nerds at that time :) Well...the Amiga was bought by Commodore who tried to sell more Amigas by making cheaper versions (A500 and A2000) which both were fine but never had that smell of quality as the A1000 had. My original A1000 were finally thrown on the dump (ouch!) by my parents when I had already moved out from their home and so I had to buy three of them now as some kind of weird compensation...
The A1000 is special since it has parts of its OS loaded from a floppy (Kickstart). A little cumbersome but also makes it easy to switch between OS versions.
